The upcoming season will mark McKinney's second season of professional football. McKinney spent most of the 2008 season on the practice squad of the St. Louis Rams. After being released by St. Louis, McKinney was signed to the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills.
McKinney's final season at Kansas State was in 2007. McKinney was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team as he led the team in tackles with 74. In 2006, the Sanford, FL native recorded 54 tackles and became the first Kansas State player since 1936 to return a game opening kickoff for a touchdown. In 2005, McKinney led the Wildcats in interceptions with three.
Before heading to Manhattan, McKinney played in 2004 at Garden City Community College. McKinney compiled 54 tackles and five interceptions in his only season for the Broncbusters.
