Allen defeats Wichita in final minutes
For the fourth time in the 2011 season the Wichita Wild had the ball in the closing minutes with a chance to take a lead and for the fourth time the Wild could not convert the opportunity into a victory. The Wild fell on Saturday night to the Allen Wranglers by a score of 56-44. The Wild led the game 44-42 in the fourth quarter and had the ball down 49-44 with four minutes left in the contest.
Highlights for the Wild included scoring the first 13 points of the second half after being down 42-31 at halftime. Wild kicker Dylan Pohlman connected on 6-of-7 field goal attempts to keep the Wild in the ball game. His six field goals in a single game are a Wild record. Wild wide receiver Clinton Solomon also set a franchise record with 14 receptions in the ball game.
Wild quarterback Shane Mascarenas finished the game 26-of-50 passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Mascarenas threw a costly interception in the fourth quarter that Freddie Solomon Jr. returned for a touchdown. The Wranglers ran only 30 offensive plays compared to 65 for the Wild. Wichita fell to 1-6 with the loss.
Wichita plays in Bloomington, IL against the Extreme this coming Friday night.
